The end-of-year honors continue to roll in for Miami athletes, as the MAC announced the All-Academic baseball team on Monday. Three RedHawks were named to the list in recognition of their performance not just on the field, but in the classroom as well: LHP Sam Dawes, 2B Jon Edgington and RHP Matt Rosinski.
Dawes, an honors business economics major, worked primarily as the RedHawks' closer this season, picking up 9 saves in 27 appearances, both of which were team-highs. He had an 0-1 record and 2.81 ERA in 25 2/3 innings of work, striking out 29 opposing batters while walking just 7.
Edgington is a microbiology major and was one of Miami's most reliable offensive producers this year. He batted .311 (64-for-206) and scored a team-high 40 runs. He had 79 total bases and 17 stolen bases in 21 attempts.
Rosinksi, an accountancy major, was a solid stopgap for the 'Hawks' bullpen. In 23 relief appearances (33 innings), his 2.45 ERA helped him to a 2-3 record. He struck out 25 batters and walked 11.
The 2011 MAC All-Academic Baseball Team was made up of 23 student-athletes representing each of the 12 teams in the conference. Miami's three nominations tied for the second-most nods of all teams along with Kent State and Northern Illinois. Eastern Michigan led the charge with four players on the list. To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 while participating in at least 50% of their team's games during the season.
