All aboard the hype train: "Evolution of PlayStation" video series

Leading up to Sony's big announcement on February 20th, they have started releasing a series of videos. Each day, for the past two days, a new video has been uploaded. Titled "Evolution of PlayStation"; each video takes us back through the growth of PlayStation.

Starting with "Evolution of PlayStation: The Beginning", it spotlights the original PlayStation system. On November 16, 1993, Sony created a new division which thrust them into the video game industry. Maybe we should be giving Nintendo some credit. If it weren't for them and their disagreement with Sony back in the day, we would've never seen the birth of the PlayStation. The system was released to the hands of eager gamers in Japan in December of 1994 and then in the states the following year in September.

You can see the first video of the installment HERE.

The video that was released today focuses on the PlayStation 2. Releasing in 2000, it became the best selling console of all time, selling 150 million consoles worldwide.

The next video, if you take in consideration that they are going in chronological order of system releases, the PSP should be the focal point. The new video should be out tomorrow.

This is what we assume the video release schedule will look like in the the Evolution of PlayStation series:

  • February 15th: PlayStation
  • February 16th: PlayStation 2
  • February 17th: PlayStation Portable
  • February 18th: PlayStation 3
  • February 19th: PS Vita
  • February 20th: The new system, dubbed the PlayStation 4, announcement

The original PlayStation had a CD player, the PlayStation 2 had a DVD player, the PlayStation 3 had a Blu-ray player....what can we assume will be included with the new system? From the rumors floating around, it could possibly have the ability to stream PS3 games, in lieu of backwards compatibility.

As we await the major announcement on Wednesday, HERE is the video that was released today.
