Alistair Overeem cleared to fight Antonio Silva at UFC 156 (Video)

According to a Jan. 8 report from MMA Junkie, Alistair Overeem has been cleared by the NSAC to fight Antonio Silva at UFC 156.

"I think we've done everything we could to correct ourselves from the errors that were made, and I'm just ready to get my life back on track," Overeem told the commission. "I'm ready to get back to fighting."

Overeem had been suspended due to a failed drug screen in 2012, and he's happy to get his MMA career back on track.

"Today I went for my license," Overeem told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following the hearing. "I'm very happy to inform you guys that I got licensed to fight Feb. 2 in the UFC against 'Bigfoot' Silva.

Overeem fights Silva on Feb. 2 in the main event of UFC 156, which also features Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar, and Jon Fitch vs Demian Maia.

"I just invested in getting to the next level; 2012 was not a lost year" Overeem said. "It was a year of learning from mistakes and preparing for a better 2013."

Overeem, 32, is riding an eight-fight win streak, including dazzling victories over Brock Lesnar, Fabricio Werdum and Todd Duffee.

His UFC 156 opponent, Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, is just 1-2 in his last three appearances, but he's coming off a knockout victory over Travis Browne.
