Alison Sweeney has been a household name to fans of “Days of Our Lives” for 21 years. She has played the role of Sami Brady all this time and now she is leaving. Fox News revealed Friday some of the reasons Sweeney gave for giving up a role she has known almost her whole life.

The interview with Sweeney revealed that she did indeed give up the Sami Brady role on her own. It was completely her decision to leave and she even said they asked what they could do to change her mind. Sweeney mentioned that she could not be persuaded to stay. She wants to move on to new adventures and roles. She wants to be at home more for her young children and take them to school. She also mentioned branching out in writing.

Sweeney talked about her last day on the set of “Days of Our Lives” and said it was very emotional. She revealed she cried a lot and even took a photo of her parking spot. This role has been a part of her life for so long so saying goodbye was extremely hard. Her husband, who is a police officer, and her two children were there to give her support on her final day.

Today also spoke with Sweeney and asked her if there is a possibility of a Sami Brady comeback in the future. Sweeney responded by saying that yes she could come back. She said that door, even if Sami was murdered, would never be completely closed. Fans can only hope that someday Sweeney will return to the beloved soap opera. For now though nobody knows for sure how the star will make her final exit.

Sweeney will remain the host of “The Biggest Loser” and she also just became a published author. Her new book titled, “Scared Scriptless,” was released this month. Be sure can catch Sweeney’s final moments on “Days of Our Lives.” It airs weekdays on NBC.
