After 21 years as ‘Days of Our Lives’ Sami Brady, Alison Sweeney has decided to call it quits. It’s an emotional decision, considering the actress joined ‘Days’ when she was only 16.

The actress made her announcement on the ‘Ellen Degeneres Show,’ which aired today. Sweeney also filled in as Ellen’s guest DJ for the day.

‘I’ve been on ‘Days of Our Lives’ for 21 years and I’ve decided it’s going to be my last year with the show,’ Sweeney told Ellen at the end of the show.

Sweeney has a lot of love for her time on ‘Days.’

‘I love Sami, I love Salem, I love daytime, I love the fans, I love my job…. I just have worked so much and I just want to be … with my kids and my husband …. I’m going to be on ('Days') all this year,’ she shared.

Sweeney says she will continue her writing career once ‘Days’ is over. The actress also says she has a passion for directing.

In addition to seeing Sweeney on ‘Days’ this year, fans can also watch her on ‘The Biggest Loser.’

‘Days of Our Lives’ airs weekdays at 1pm on Detroit’s local NBC affiliate WDIV Channel 4.

‘The Biggest Loser’ airs Tuesdays nights at 8pm on NBC.
