Alison Sweeney is quitting “Days of Our Lives,” according to Soap Opera Digest on Jan. 21. After more than two decades on the show, the character of Sami will be departing.

SOD shares that the big announcement will be made Monday on “The Ellen Degeneres Show.” Many will be shocked and disappointed to hear this news, but luckily they will have some time to digest it all. Sweeney's contract is in place until later this year.

Alison Sweeney is quitting “DOOL,” but she says it wasn't an easy decision. She shares that her “passion for working at DAYS has kept me there, obviously, for 21 years.” She adds that she loves the character and the people she works with, so it was difficult to walk away.

Sweeney has also been the host of “The Biggest Loser” since 2007 as well. What comes next for Sweeney? People notes that Alison says she's just looking forward to spending more time with her kids, and she has quite a few other irons in the fire as well.

What will “Days of Our Lives” do with the character? Sweeney says she doesn't know yet, and she's hoping for a happy ending. She does joke, however, that the character of Sami probably deserves something more along the lines of a "Breaking Bad" ending. Soap Opera Digest will share more from Alison Sweeney in its new issue this week, and fans will have to stay tuned to see how this all plays out.
