Alison Sweeney leaves 'Days', as NBC gives the soap a two-year renewal

Good and bad news for fans of Days of Our Lives (DOOL) -- including you EJ & Sami ("EJami") fans.

First, the good: NBC renews its longest-running soap through November 2016, a year after its 50th anniversary, which will be November 2015. Since 1965, Days follows the lives, loves, and tribulations involving the Hortons and Bradys in the town of Salem.

Now, the bad, though: Alison Sweeney announced on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that she is leaving Days sometime later this year after playing Samantha Jean Brady for over two decades; no word on when her final airdate will be.

A fan favorite since 1993, Sweeney made Sami Brady the bad girl everyone loved to hate with her plotting, scheming, and lying, which included coming between her sister Carrie and true love Austin. To illustrate, making Austin think he was Will's biological father when it was Lucas all along. Though still a vixen, Sami has somewhat softened in recent years, and is one-half of supercouples Lucas & Sami ("Lumi"), Rafe & Sami ("Safe"), and EJ & Sami ("EJami"), whom many compared to General Hospital (GH)'s Luke & Laura, who coined the term "supercouple".

Besides Days, Sweeney also hosts NBC's The Biggest Loser.
