Holistic Chiropractor Dr. Dirk Farrell recently held an in store workshop at Seattle’s Born to Run, The Barefoot Shoe Store. During the event, Dr. Farrell shared many of the insights he has gained treating patients at his Align Wellness Clinic. He also demonstrated the importance of shoes (especially minimalist shoes) in running, walking and simply standing.
Leading his audience through simple experiential exercises, Dr. Farrell was able to demonstrate just how easily even a small amount of padding in a shoe can create enormous instability for a person. That instability often produces serious problems including pain, injury and slower running times. The Born To Run store was the perfect place to present this information as Born To Run specializes in minimalist shoes including the Seattle-made Luna Sandals.
Also in attendance was renowned barefoot / minimalist shoe running evangelist Barefoot Ted McDonald, who is featured in the book “Born To Run.” Barefoot Ted shared some of his insights into the art, science and care of feet and how we can each move closer to the natural state of being barefoot more often. Following the cultural trend toward simple living and better health, minimalist shoes and eventually running barefoot is becoming more and more popular.
Dr. Farrell has also been an advocate of minimalist (if not barefoot) footwear, and the two men provided the participants with lots of ideas and information. This unique event helped people decide how to best care for their feet and bodies while creating maximum health and wellness for themselves. Dr. Farrell practices what he preaches wearing minimalist shoes and competing in bicycle races and running marathons while treating patients in his Seattle Align Wellness Clinic.
May all people find their true balance in body, mind and spirit so that they can follow Dr. Farrell’s axiom - “Structure - Connect - Support” to create wellness in all areas of their lives.
