Sunday, Weather.com reported a story about a massive alien planet found and it has been named HD 106906 b; the alien planet is 11 times the size of Jupiter and it orbits a single star that is located far away. The alien planet was discovered a few days ago, but researchers are now baffled as they discover more information about the alien planet because it is located “650 times the average distance between the Earth and the sun,” according to Weather.com and many researchers didn’t believe that was possible.
HD 106906 b is much larger than any planet in our solar system and it raises questions about how some of the worlds exist and are formed.
Vanessa Bailey, a fifth-year graduate student in astronomy at the University of Arizona's said this about the alien planet HD 106906 b that was discovered:
"This system is especially fascinating because no model of either planet or star formation fully explains what we see.”
Over the last 30 years, our perception changed drastically about space and what is believed. What was taught in schools about astronomy has changed drastically in the last 30 years. Each time a new planet or solar system is discovered it raises questions and additional research to find out how and why those worlds can exist. The HD 106906 b alien planet is exciting because of its sheer size and how distant it is from the star it is orbiting from. It is a completely different existence that researchers know nothing about now, but will in the future because of its discovery.
