The NFL announced Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, that Alicia Keys will be singing the national anthem at Super Bowl 47 next month, according to Foxsports.com. Super Bowl Sunday will be Feb. 3, 2013, and it will be played in New Orleans, LA at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Kick-off will be at 6:30 EST, but we don't know yet which teams will take the field. The NFL is down to its final four, as the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers vie to be there on the big day.
Alicia Keys will sing the “Star Spangled Banner,” our often-abused national anthem. Hopefully, the Grammy-winning R&B singer, who turns 32 this week, will do a better job than most do with the very difficult piece of music. You can see a couple of hair-raising performances of the national anthem in the attached video. (Yes, you know one of them has to be Steven Tyler!)
Sports Illustrated.com recounts the 2011 Super Bowl when Christina Aguilera made news when she goofed up the complicated words of the "Star Spangled Banner:"
At the 2011 Super Bowl between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers in Dallas, pop star Christina Aguilera flubbed a line while belting out the national anthem. When she was supposed to sing the words "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming," Aguilera instead repeated an earlier line, with a slight variation - drawing plenty of attention on Twitter.
Half-time entertainment for Super Bowl 47 had already been announced. Beyoncé is the featured entertainment, and she will also be joined by a reunion of Destiny’s Child for a short segment. You can read about Destiny’s Child’s new album and Super Bowl performance here.
