Alicia Keys gave fans a whole new version of the National Anthem on Feb. 3 at the Super Bowl. According to a Feb. 3 Daily Mail report, it was “a mellow, jazzy rendition” of the anthem. The singer was very excited about her live performance. Prior to the show, she told the Huffington Post, “I'm really excited about it, I can't even lie. I have to rehearse it totally, as if it's a brand-new song, because it is actually a brand new song in the style that I'll deliver it. I'm actually rehearsing it like a maniac.”
She definitely made good on her promise to deliver a brand new song. For the event, the singer went for a chic red look. Keys kicked off the game with a bold, red long racer back dress, sleek hair and a gold necklace. She was nothing short of striking as she sat in the middle of the field behind a silver grand piano. Everything was so classically Alicia and went off without a hitch. The rehearsals paid off.
Before hitting the grand piano for her performance in front of millions, Keys shared her pre-performance ritual with her fans on Twitter, tweeting, “Just finished a beautiful, calming yoga session. My intention is 2 enjoy every piece of this special day! What's urs?”
The “Girl on Fire” singer followed with several other tweets throughout the day, including photos of herself getting ready; she posted one photo of herself in a white robe and another of her in the red dress she wore on the field. Accompanying the photos she wrote, “Almost ready to sing at the @Superbowl! Is this football appropriate? Heels are my version of cleets!” and “Getting ready to sing my heart out for America! The city is electric!! ;-) !!!”
