Alice Birney Elementary school burns in possible arson fire

Alice Birney Elementary school on Campus Avenue partially burned in a fire, according to NBCSanDiego news.  The fire that started in the kitchen, spread to an auditorium and an after-school room.  It was determined the fire started just before midnight on Monday.

Fire investigators are investigating what caused the fire, but flammable liquid was seen at the scene and it is assumed it was used to start the fire at the school located in the University City area of San Diego.

The school sets adjacent to the San Diego Unified School's Board of Education Office on Normal Street.  The principal hopes to be able to open the school tomorrow.
