What happens in Las Vegas does not always stay in Las Vegas.
Miss South Carolina 2012 Ali Rogers will leave Las Vegas with both honors and thousands of dollars in college scholarships.
She was named first runner-up on Saturday in the Miss America Pageant and was a preliminary winner in the swimsuit competition.
The scholarships will help her meet her academic goal of earning a master’s degree in public relations and eventually own her own public relations firm.
Among those tweeting congratulations to Rogers was Gov. Nikki Haley (R-S.C.), who wrote “I am one proud Governor! Ali, you have made your state very proud!"
Rogers, 20, is from Laurens, S.C.
She attended Laurens District 55 High School and is a student at Clemson University.
During the pageant, she performed the Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” on the piano.
Her personal pageant platform is “Make a Difference.”
Before being crowned Miss South Carolina, Rogers was the reigning Miss Laurens County.
