On Thursday, Alhebayeb (9-2 betting odds) won the Group 2 TNT July Stakes at Newmarket. In securing the victory in the six furlong horserace, jockey Paul Hanagan earned £34,026
On behalf of owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
The two-year-old Alhebayeb held off second placer Lewisham and third placer Ahern. Horse racing tipsters had placed Ahern as the betting favourite at a confident 9-4 heading into the meeting. Alhebayeb’s Tote win amounted to 4.80.
Hanagan found his 8-12 weight runner striving in spite of the hill, and Lewisham appeared to lose momentum in these final stages. Many of the contenders participated in various races at the Royal Ascot three weeks ago. The TNT July Stakes allows two-year-old thoroughbred colts and geldings to compete in the event.
Overnight rainfall is expected over Newmarket and the ground is expected to remain soft in upcoming races. Chepstow and Perth will each hold an 8 a.m. inspection of ground conditions on Friday.
Met Office’s weather forecast for Thursday evening reads as follows: “Rain across much of Wales, central and southern England this evening, with further showery rain for central parts of England and Wales tonight, this heavy and persistent in places. Drier elsewhere although chance of a few showers in the north.”
