Those of us who grew up in the 1990's were fortunate enough to have witnessed a renaissance to superhero television shows beginning with Batman: The Animated Series. From 1992-1998, one man stood by Kevin Conroy's Bruce Wayne as the memorable voices of a defining show. That man was the talented actor Efrem Zimbalist Jr. who voiced Alfred Pennyworth for the entire animated series after taking over the character three episodes into the lengthy series. He would later appear as his character in other DC animated universe properties whenever Batman crossed over. With his chive toned voice, many young fans grew up with Zimbalist Jr's influencing monologues and lectures through the voice of the loyal butler, Alfred Pennyworth.
No stranger to the superhero animated universes, Zimbalist also portrayed the Spider-Man villain Dr. Octopus during the 1990's Spider-Man animated series and Iron Man rival, Justin Hammer in that respective 90's series. After generations of delighting comic fans, Zimbalist Jr. leaves us with a library of work that will last eternally to be discovered by new viewers everyday. Thank you, the definitive voice of Alfred. May you rest in peace. You deserve it sir.
