Alexis Gonzalez was crowned Miss Lake Norman 2013, Miss North Carolina Arlie Honeycutt announced Feb. 17 on Facebook.
The local title qualifies her to be a contestant in the Miss North Carolina Pageant. The winner of the state pageant will represent North Carolina at the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.
The new Miss North Carolina will be crowned on June 22.
Gonzalez has participated in pageants for several years.
She is a former Miss Greater Wilmington who was a contestant in last year’s Miss North Carolina Pageant.
In 2006, she was second runner-up for Miss North Carolina Junior Teen. She was first runner-up in the Spirit Award category and runner-up in the Most Ticket Sales competition.
She is also a former ANTSO National Miss.
"I was proud to represent North Carolina and my school, the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where I study criminology," she wrote at the time. "I have a passion for working with children and I am excited to continue my work with the Boys and Girls Club of America, as well as Habitat for Humanity, and the Special Olympics."
