The guy who Republican U.S. Senator Mark Kirk from Illinois defeated in last November’s elections, Alexi Giannoulias, has resurfaced as Gov. Pat Quinn’s hand-picked chairman of the Illinois Community College Board.
Giannoulias, 35, made extreme headlines during his negative campaign with Kirk and became a high-profile candidate due to President Barack Obama’s involvement with his campaign in which Obama made a couple of trips to Illinois to fundraise and campaign for the fellow-Illinois Democrat. During the anti-Democratic sentiment throughout Illinois and much of the United States, Giannoulias went down in defeat - even with the President's hard efforts.
Unlike Giannoulias' former State Treasurer’s job, however, this position is part-time and not a paid position.
