It’s that time of year again! After the holidays, and all are back to work, the semi-annual restaurant promotion week arrives January 18th. This year comes with a twist, in that we have a Presidential inauguration—and Alexandria restaurants are no strangers to presidential visitors.
Participating restaurants will offer prix fix dinners for two for $35.00, a great bargain in today’s world of increasing costs.
Most of the action in Alexandria’s restaurant scene occurs in historic Old Town, where the majority of eateries and bars are located, and those restaurants get much-deserved press. But there are some other options that are great dining experiences outside of the Old Town area.
Tempo, located in Alexandria’s West End area at 4231 Duke street (close to the Duke Street/Seminary Road intersection) is a great choice to try. This northern Italian restaurant has a clean, elegant interior. The men offers classic selections of pastas, seafood, and meats. They have too many selections, frankly, but what shines on their menu are the pastas.
From the Capelli D’Angelo Napoletana, a simple egg pasta with tomato and garlic, to the heavier rigatoni dishes, their pastas are fresh and cooked correctly. Most of the pasta dishes are priced around $15; meat and seafood entrees are closer to $20.
Tempo is quite popular for lunch with the business crowd but draws a local crowd in the evenings.
Another area outside of the main Old Town is the Eisenhower neighborhood—which is all 20th century! There, a great option is the Trademark Bar.
Unlike Tempo, This is a bar first and restaurant second and is located just a few steps from the US Patent Office, which provided the basis for Trademark’s name.
Trademark opened on Election Day in 2012, and is a newcomer to the Alexandria restaurant scene. It specializes in craft cocktails and savory fare and is definitely worth a visit during restaurant week. Be sure to try their signature Old Fashioned with a new twist.
While not inexpensive, Trademark does have some well-priced craft drink deals.
Restaurant week runs through the 27th.
Almost all area Alexandria restaurants are participating in restaurant week, and a complete list of restaurants and menus is available at www.visitalexandria.com/restaurants/restaurant-week.
This week is a popular event. Reservations through Open Table are recommended.
