It is now official that they have picked up Alexandra Shipp to play Aaliyah in the new Lifetime movie. This comes after they have already changed actresses one time. Zendaya Coleman was supposed to play the role but that didn't end up working out. On Friday, LA Times shared the news about the new actress who will take on this very important role.

Zendaya dropped the role and then spoke out about it. She told her fans, "after actually starting the project, I feel like there were certain things that were missing and things that weren’t 100 percent taken care of. I feel like if I’m going to portray one of my idols ... it has to be done right. It just wasn’t a good choice for me." She didn't really explain why she didn't think it would fit her though.

Wendy Williams is an executive producer on this movie. She was able to announce the news that Alexandra Shipp will play the part on her Twitter account. She said, "I'm excited to exec produce the Aaliyah @lifetimetv movie w/ @DebraMChase, Prod starts later this month and @AlexShipppp will play Aaliyah."

Aaliyah died in a plane crash after filming her music video for the song "Rock the Boat." She was in the Bahamas and all nine of the people on the plane died. Everyone has wanted to know more about her and this Lifetime movie will be their chance.

Who is Alexandra Shipp? She is best known for "House of Anubis." This is a show that airs on Nickelodeon. Don't miss her in the new biopic movie that will air on Lifetime. An actual date for this movie has not been set yet.
