The local teams came up big at the first day of the state legion tournament at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University.
Kyle Alexander allowed one unearned run in nine innings, and the Brewer Falcons scored three runs in the 10th inning to earn a 4-1 victory over Staples Crossing of South Berwick on Wednesday morning.
The Falcons took a 1-0 lead when Chase Allen drew a bases loaded walk during the top of the second inning. Staples Crossing took advantage of a Brewer error to even the score during the fourth inning.
Staples had two runners on base during the bottom of the ninth inning, Alexander got Max McCoomb to ground out to end the threat,
Greg Warmouth led off the top of the 10th inning with a single to centerfield. Logan Rogerson followed with a walk. Allen got hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Rogerson scored the go ahead run on a Staples Crossing error. The Falcons added two more runs. Jeff Weeks pitched a scoreless 10th inning to lock down the victory for Alexander and the Falcons.
Brewer will play Bessey Motors from South Paris in a winners bracket game in the double elimination tournament on Thursday afternoon at 3:30.
Ty Martin had three hits and three runs scored, while Riley Chickering pitched a complete game in leading Bessey Motors to a 7-2 victory over Post 51.
Justin Courtney struck out 13 and allowed only five hits in eight innings to lead the Bangor Comrades to a 4-1 victory over Morrill Post on Wednesday evening.
Trevor DeLaite struck out the side in the ninth inning to lock down the victory for the Comrades.
Bangor will play Pastime from Lewiston in the final game of the day on Thursday. Mike Wong hit a walk off single to lift Pastime to a 3-2 victory over Franklin County.
Staples Crossing will take on Post 51 in one elimination game, Morrill Post will take on Franklin County in the other elimination game.
