Talks are in the air that Alex Trebek may be stepping down as the host of “Jeopardy” when his latest contract expires. Alex has been hosting this family show for years and is currently 73 years old. Sony Pictures Television convinced him to sign on for another three-year contract that won’t conclude until the year 2016. The Columbus Dispatch reported on March 18 with a question whether or not Matt Lauer will be the one to take Trebek’s place on the show.
Sony Pictures Television has been seeking out a replacement for Alex ever since he suffered with his second heart attack. The television network as well as the actor is concerned for his health and well being.
Alex Trebek has been welcomed into family homes for years with his easy manner, quick wit and effortless way he can pronounce all the words posed to him when asking the questions and relaying the answers to the contestants and viewers at home.
The big question is who will be his replacement?
Matt Lauer’s contract will expire in 2015 from the show, “Today”. It seems he has been blamed for the drop in ratings to the number two spot. Matt is in the running although many fans don’t think he would be the best fit for the position. CNN is also looking at Anderson Cooper as a candidate to replace Alex. Cooper’s talk show was cancelled after the second season and is available. His mannerisms and gentle voice seem to be a perfect fit for the new host of “Jeopardy”.
No one knows for sure who will replace Alex Trebek. It will be very difficult for anyone who gets the position when the time is right to step into Alex’s shoes when he moves on with his life away from the show.
Are fans sad to hear that their time with Trebek will be short lived? Do they think the networks will find that perfect replacement host? Are you a die-hard fan of the show? Will you continue to watch no matter who is hosting?
