Alex Trebek knows Magic Johnson and it’s pretty obvious he thinks people playing “Jeopardy” should know the accomplished athlete plays in NBA. It was one of the most insanely wrong answers ever offered about sports on "Jeopardy." Fans are laughing as the topic is trending this week According to the “Today” show on Friday, not only did the contestant get the answer wrong as he was thinking about the NBA and not the NHL, he got a mini lecture by Alex Trebek after the answer was revealed.
The question was in the “Sports Superstar” category and was easy enough that even a child might know the answer:
"100+ assists in an NHL season has been accomplished only 13 times, 11 times by this player."
The player buzzed in and said, "Who is Magic Johnson?" It was the wrong answer and one of his competitors won the question. However after the answer was revealed, Alex came back to the contestant to make sure he understood just how ridiculous his answer sounded.
"We're talking about hockey, not the NBA,” said Alex Trebek firmly. The host of “Jeopardy” obvious was a big hockey fan and probably thought the contestant should not be buzzing in to give an answer if he only had a guess.
The questions often heard on “Jeopardy” are sometimes difficult and focus on more obscure facts or information, but simple question seemed like a detail most people should know. Especially someone who had hit the buzzer first and appeared to be a solid player.
This week fans of the popular show seemed to take an interest after the contestant named Joe offered an answer that was absolutely off the mark.
