Road course ace Alex Tagliani, driving the No. 22 Team Penske Ford normally shared by Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney, turned in a 134.411-second/108.420 mph lap at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., on Saturday morning to claim the pole starting spot for Saturday afternoon's Gardner Denver 200 NASCAR nationwide Series race. It marks his second pole in five Nationwide races. Series rookie Dylan Kwasniewski will share the front row with Tagliani after posting the second-fastest lap in the qualifying session.

Saturday's qualifying session consisted of two rounds. Nationwide Series regular was the fastest in the first round with a 133.812-second/108.905 mph lap, the fastest lap turned throughout the entire qualifying session. He was one of only two drivers to make a lap in under 134 seconds. The other was Brendan Gaughan, with a lap also turned in the first round.

Thirty-eight drivers made qualifying attempts in round one. With a full Nationwide Series race field being 40 cars, all who made qualifying attempts garnered spots on the starting grid for Saturday afternoon's race, with the race being two cars shy of a full field.

The 12 fastest drivers advanced to the second round of qualifying to set the top-12 of the starting order. Aside from Tagliani and Kwasniewski, the other 10 drivers advancing included (in the order in which they qualified from third through 12th): Regan Smith, Sam Hornish Jr., Brendan Gaughan, Scott, Ty Dillon, Justin marks, Chris Buescher, Andy Lally, Elliott Sadler and Chase Elliott.
