Alex Smith Trade: 49ers QB Alex Smith trade to Kansas City all but done? (Video)

The San Francisco 49ers are dedicating themselves to QB Colin Kaepernick 100% as it appears an Alex Smith trade is nearly complete. Smith has been with the 49ers since 2005 and led San Francisco to the NFC Championship game in January 2012. However, after an injury sidelined Smith this season, back up Colin Kaepernick took over and played so well that Smith never saw the field again.

According to Yahoo! report on Feb. 24, NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal of says that from everything he's heard around the scouting combine this week, the Kansas City Chiefs have a deal for Smith that is "all but done."

If the trade does happen, it can't surprise too many 49ers fans, but there is one thing that may bother some of the San Francisco faithful - Smith is a proven QB, Kaepernick isn't

I know Colin is fast, strong and has a great potential, but could trading away a star like Smith could come back to haunt them in the end?

The 49ers are built to win now, so this move may be best for Smith and the team.

If the deal is really going to happen, it can't actually take place until March 12, when the new NFL league year begins.
