For the first time in "X Factor" U.S. history, the show has two contestants in the Top 10 on the iTunes (U.S.) Top 100 Songs chart. As of Dec. 12, 2013, boyfriend/girlfriend duo Alex & Sierra and rock singer Jeff Gutt have Top 10 hits on the chart:

  • Alex & Sierra debuted at No. 2 and are currently at No. 1 with their version of Sara Bareilles' "Gravity," which Alex & Sierra performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 11, 2013.
  • Gutt has debuted at No. 4 and is currently at No. 5 with his version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," which Gutt performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 11, 2013.
  • Alex & Sierra are at No. 7 with their version of A Great Big World's "Say Something," which Alex & Sierra performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 4, 2013. Alex & Sierra's "Say Something" was No. 1 on the iTunes Top 100 Songs chart for one day (on Dec. 5, 2013), but sales for the song weren't enough for Alex & Sierra's version of "Say Something" to make it on to the Billboard Hot 100 chart yet, according to the chart figures announced by Billboard on Dec. 11, 2013.

Elsewhere on the iTunes (U.S.) Top 100 Songs chart ...

  • Alex & Sierra are currently No. 11 with their version of Of Monsters and Men's "Little Talks," which Alex & Sierra performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 11, 2013.
  • Gutt is at No. 38 with his version of Imagine Dragons' "Demons," which Gutt performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 11, 2013.
  • Alex & Sierra are at No. 46 with their version of Destiny's Child's "Say My Name," which Alex & Sierra performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 4, 2013.
  • Alex & Sierra are at No. 63 with their version of One Direction's "Best Song Ever," which Alex & Sierra performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Nov. 20, 2013.
  • Restless Road is at No. 64 with its version of Hunter Hayes' "Wanted," which Restless Road performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Dec. 11, 2013.
  • Alex & Sierra are at No. 85 with their version of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble," which Alex & Sierra performed on "The X Factor" U.S. on Nov. 27, 2013.

As I first exclusively reported, Alex & Sierra, Gutt, country trio Restless Road and pop singer Ellona Santiago are Simon Cowell's top picks from 2013's group of "X Factor" U.S. contestants to sign to Syco Music, the record company that Cowell co-owns with Sony Music. Latin pop singer Carlito Olivero and R&B singer Josh Levi could also be signed to Syco Music/Sony Music. As of this writing, Santiago and Levi have already been eliminated from the show. Santiago came in sixth place. Levi came in seventh place.

The contestants from the third season of "The X Factor" U.S. who will be signed to Sony Music will not be signed until after Dec. 19, 2013, when the winner will be announced in the show's third season finale.

Based on music sales and judges' comments, Alex & Sierra have been widely predicted to be the winner this year, with Gutt likely to come in second place. However, anything can happen, and we won't know for sure who will come in first, second and third place until the show's third season finale on Dec. 19, 2013.

Based on the downward spiral of ratings, "The X Factor" U.S. is headed toward cancellation, so this will probably be the show's last season. Fox won't make an official announcement about the fate of the show until probably May 2014.
