The 2013 Grammy Nominations Concert took place on Dec. 6 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, and was televised in the U.S. on CBS. Several of the artists who performed or were presenters at the event were also announced as nominees for the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on January 26, 2014, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Here is what this Grammy Nominations Concert entertainer said backstage in the press room.
ALEX DA KID
Record of the Year: Imagine Dragons, “Radioactive” (producer)
How do you feel about your Grammy nomination?
Getting nominated for Record of the Year is a dream come true. I feel like a proud dad, like it’s my children who are nominated. It’s insane.
Can you talk about the first time you saw Imagine Dragons and what impressed you about them?
Yeah, we kind of met in the studio. I was working with U2 at the time, and I was looking for a band to bounce ideas off of, and we just kind of had instant chemistry in the studio. Those songs actually turned into the songs that are one the album now. And that was two years ago. It’s been a crazy ride that happened so quickly.
When will you be working on the next Imagine Dragons album?
Soon. They’re doing their first arena tour in January , and as soon as they finish that, I think in late March/early April , we’re going to go back in the studio and get a second album underway.
We’ve been working remotely by Skype and stuff. They’re on tour now. They’re all over the world. It doesn’t really start until we’re in the studio together. So yeah, exciting times.
What other projects do you have? Aren’t you doing some soundtrack work?
I’m doing a bunch of stuff. It’s too early to talk about, but I’m definitely moving into the film world. I’ve got some big things happening for 2014. So yeah, I’m excited. I’m just trying to spread my wings and do different things.
