North Texas non-profit "Alert Ministries" will provide Thanksgiving Dinner to hundreds of kids in Henry Wade Juvenile Detention Center. This is the fourth annual "Thanksgiving Meal of Hope" where the ministry provides a traditional holiday meal to boys and girls ages 10-17 years of age. This year they hope to provide for more children.
The faith based Alert Ministries started in 2008 by a group of individuals who wanted to make a difference in stopping human trafficking within the North Texas area. In 2010 the group started to meet with girls in the juvenile justice system and received their 501.c3 status.Though-out the year Alert Ministries provides weekly life skills classes to girls in detention center. Weekly classes are taught on topics about self worth, doing life together, the true meaning and healthy expression of love, dating violence, sex and sexuality, sex trafficking, family relationships, how to manage overwhelming feelings.
Each girl they encounter is a daughter of the community and that the church and community have the privilege and responsibility to help these girls reach their full potential.
Each year ALERT hosts a Thanksgiving meal that brings together volunteers from every organization represented in Henry Wade Juvenile Detention. They pray, serve and share a meal with the children and staff. This year they hope to provide 240 meals to boys and girls. For $15.00 a meal can be provided to a child.
