So many bars make you feel like you should be an experienced, intense "drinker" or they concoct a vibe that puts so many people on edge. Think of the laidback feeling of a café -- how you can curl up in a funky chair, read a book or type on a device. Think of its lack of pressure and that's the ambiance of McAllen, Texas' Roosevelt's at 7 821 N. Main St., McAllen, TX 78501. It's kind of a "local secret". The place plays homage to classic movie stars, both in art and in naming its menu offerings. I was very glad to be hosted to experience it!
They carry a great selection of beers on draft, both American and international. I tried a coconut-curry Hefeweizen, which sounds like it would be weird, but it was great! Refreshing with a hint of exotic flavor.
Their menu is classic bar fare, but done with quality ingredients. A seared tuna appetizer was beautifully fresh, cut into paper thin slices, adding to its tenderness.
