Jose Aldo appears to be unstoppable. But the UFC has to put someone in front of Scarface and the champion believes he knows who that will be. Speaking to MMAJunkie.com, the Brazilian made his prediction:
“It was between Cub and Chad, and I already knew that, but they scheduled the fight for Cub. For me, it doesn’t matter.
“I fought Chad before and he’s as good of a competitor as any. I’ve also fought Cub, so for me, it’s the same. Both of them earned it.”
Aldo has beaten both, so the casual attitude is understandable. Sadly the next fight for the featherweight title holder won’t be against lightweight champion Anthony Pettis in a Super Fight. For those that missed it, “Showtime” will instead coach against (TUF) and then fight Gilbert Melendez later this year.
That makes Chad Mendes a happy man. The Team Alpha Male product has won his last five fights and if you take away the loss to the aforementioned Aldo, he’d be a perfect 16-0 in MMA. One has to wonder however if things will be any different this time around for the former Division 1 All-American wrestler. He looked overmatched in his first contest with the champion and suffered a devastating knockout. Money has been better at finishing fights since losing back in January of 2012, but nothing seems to imply he has the answer for Aldo.
