ALDI is set to open a second grocery store in Lancaster County this summer. The discount grocery store chain, headquartered out of Batavia, IL, has signed a lease for a 17,594-square-foot store at Mill Creek Square. The shopping center, located along Route 30 across from the newly opened IHOP Restaurant, also houses Kohl’s, Red Robin, Staples, and several other stores.
“We are pleased to establish this new Lancaster location, as we continue to expand our relationship with the local community,” said Jeff Baehr, division vice president for ALDI. “Our high-value, high-quality model has driven interest and strong loyalty among our customer base. Smart shoppers know they can save time and money at ALDI without sacrificing quality.”
Customers can find over 1,300 of the most commonly purchased items sold under ALDI exclusive brands for prices up to 50 percent less than traditional supermarkets. ALDI eliminates overhead costs by offering smart practices. The prices are great but first time shoppers may be surprised at some of the cost saving practices.
ALDI uses a cart rental system in which shoppers insert a quarter to release a cart and receive the quarter back upon the cart’s return. Displays are done in an open carton manner. Customers should bring their own shopping bags or use empty cartons found at the store. Grocery bags are also available for sale at the store.
Shoppers should also note that ALDI does not accept credit cards. The store does however accept cash, debit and EBT cards. By avoiding those expensive credit card processing charges, the store can keep its prices low.
The weekly sales run Wednesday to Tuesday each week. On Wednesdays, ALDI has a Fresh Meat Special Buy sale. There is a limited supply on whatever is the advertised meat of the day. The prices though are, more often than not, incredible. For example, last week a 2.75 lb. Cattleman’s Ranch fresh USDA Choice beef pot roast kit was just $7.99 each. This week, Wednesday, 26 February, the special is fresh family pack of chicken breasts for $1.59 per pound. The average pack is five pounds.
Mill Creek Square is situated between the Rockvale Square and Tanger Outlets on Route 30. It is serviced by Red Rose Transit.
“ALDI, known for high-quality grocery items at low prices, will complement the many other fine Mill Creek Square retailers who have recognized that Lancaster is a vibrant market and that Mill Creek Square provides a great environment in which to serve their customers,” said H. Stephen Evans, Senior Vice President and Managing Director-Retail Division for High Associates Ltd., the Leasing Manager for the sprawling shopping center.
The current ALDI store is located just outside the City in the Lancaster Shopping Center, on Lititz Pike, Manheim Township. It is located next between LA Fitness and Kingdom Buffet.
