Tonight, the stars of J.J. Abrams upcoming FOX series “Alcatraz” lined the red carpet in the former prison’s shower room for interviews and photos before entering D-Block—the administrative segregation unit—for a private screening of the sci-fi procedural’s first two episodes: “Pilot/Ernest Cobb.”
“The Alcatraz Premiere Party,” sponsored by Ford, marked Hollywood’s biggest presence on the island since the debut of “The Rock” in 1996.
In addition to the cast, producers, and writers, former inmate Robert Luke, island staff, and invited guests—some of whom won their tickets via television, radio, and social media contests—also attended the special event.
The initial two-hour episode centers on Det. Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) as she leads a task force of Alcatraz experts (Jorge Garcia, Sam Neill, and Parminder Nagra) to investigate a double-cop killing engineered by Jack Sylvane (Jeffrey Pierce), a deceased Alcatraz inmate who is the first of several ex-cons who begin reappearing in the present day. Ernest Cobb (Joe Egender), a sniper slayer who targets young people, is the second. More will follow in subsequent shows.
Robert Forster, Jason Butler Harner, Jonny Coyne, and Santiago Cabrera co-star.
Some scenes were filmed on the island and in San Francisco, but the majority of the series was shot in Vancouver.
“Alcatraz” debuts with a two-hour special on Monday, January 16 at 8PM ET/PT on FOX.
