Alcatraz hype builds as premier date is set

JJ Abrams new series, Alcatraz, will center on a group of prisoners and guards who went missing thirty years ago – only to mysteriously reappear in the present day. Described as a show "about secrets and the most infamous prison of all time," Alcatraz will follow a team of FBI agents who are assigned the task of tracking down these time traveling characters from the 1960s, while simultaneously trying to figure out the mystery behind their disappearance all those years ago.

LOST’s Jorge Garcia (Hurley) plays Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto, a "hippy geek" who’s the world’s foremost expert on Alcatraz. And seriously, how can you not love a show with Hurley?

LOST executive producer Elizabeth Sarnoff wrote the final Alcatraz script; she will serve as showrunner and executive producer along with fellow LOST alums JJ Abrams and Bryan Burk, among others. Jack Bender, whose credits also include Abrams’ LOST, ALIAS and Felicity, joins Alcatraz as an executive producer and director.

And the LOST comparisons don’t end there. But Sarnoff is quick to point out that the new show aims to move fast and answer the questions it poses.
