Alcatraz destroyed in new 'Star Trek Into Darkness' trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming movie Star Trek Into Darkness was released Thursday with a possible hidden message from director-producer J.J. Abrams-he doesn't like Alcatraz anymore.

At 1:57 of the action-packed preview, the "Starship Enterprise" slams into Alcatraz Island completely destroying the former prison building.

The sequence appears to be personal retribution for Fox cancelling his much hyped Alcatraz series last May. The show's premiere drew more than 10 million viewers, but ratings gradually fell each week and it was not renewed.

Abrams' sci-fi drama was also heavily criticized for its convoluted writing, sub-par acting, and not filming on location aside from the pilot.

Performances by Jonny Coyne (Warden James) and Leon Rippy (Dr. Beauregard) were recognized as the high points of the series.

Alcatraz DVD's have sold well and the show is still popular in the UK.

Star Trek Into Darkness crashes into US theaters on May 17.
