Who would have thought the best place to learn about Hawaiian music in January would be Albuquerque, New Mexico? If you have an interest in Ukulele and Slack Key Guitars you're in luck. On Saturday January 25th Grammy Award winners George Kahumoku Jr. and Ledward Kaapana will be offering workshops at the South Broadway Cultural Center, 1025 Broadway Boulevard S.E.
The Cultural Center is a perfect location for this event. The small auditorium has a wonderful close-to-the-artist atmosphere with no really bad seats in the theater.
The Ukelele Workshop with George Kahumoku Jr., 4 time Grammy Award winner in Hawaiian music will be at 2 p.m. at a cost of $37.50. The Slack Key Guitar Workshop by Grammy winning Led Kaapana will be held at 3:45 p.m., also for $37.50.
Teaming up for a concert at 8 p.m. the same evening George, known as "Hawaii's Renaissance Man," and Ledward, famous for his extraordinary baritone and leo ki'eki'e (falsetto) voices will join together for an unforgettable evening of Hawaiin musical entertainment. This event will also be held at the South Broadway Cultural Center. Call 886-1251 for ticket information at this and other events or look at ampconcerts.org.
Enjoy the music, think about visiting Hawaii and . . . Keep on Traveling!
