Albuquerque shooting: 15-year-old charged with 5 deaths including 3 children

The Albuquerque shooting in New Mexico left five people dead, three of them grade-school children including two girls and one boy. Each victim had been shot several times by multiple weapons including an assault rifle. According to Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston, a 15-year-old boy who “may be a family member” has been charged with the Albuquerque shooting deaths,” reports CNN on Jan. 20, 2013.

As of Sunday afternoon, the names of the Albuquerque shooting victims have not been released since the official identification of the shooting victims is still in process.

Around 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were called to a home on the southwestern part of Albuquerque. At this point it is not quite clear yet who made the call but Sheriff Dan Houston said that deputies were called by “a party that was called by the suspect." Dan Houston emphasized that the “the dynamics of that relationship” is still unknown.

When the deputies arrived at the Albuquerque home which is located in a semi-rural area, sheriff’s investigators found a most “horrific crime scene.”

Upon entering the home, deputies found a man, a woman, and the three school-aged children inside the Albuquerque residence. All five were deceased. Deputies found numerous weapons inside the home including an assault rifle. In a CNN video, Dan Houston said that multiple weapons had been used during the Albuquerque shooting.

"I've never seen a scene quite like this," Sheriff Dan Houston described the scene.

County Sheriff Dan Houston said that a 15-year-old has been charged with the Albuquerque shooting deaths. The 15-year-old suspect “has been charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.”

So far investigators are not aware of any criminal history by the 15-year-old or by any other family members. The alleged Albuquerque shooter is “being charged as a juvenile, but prosecutors could bring charges against him as an adult,” said Bernalillo County sheriff's Lt. Sid Covington.
