A must visit historical spot in Albuquerque is Old Town. Just as it’s name suggests, Old Town is centered with a plaza containing a gazebo and surrounded by a church, several restaurants, and shops filled with all things New Mexican. This charming and eclectic neighborhood is often the host site of New Mexican themed events, such as this weekend’s 9th Annual Old Town Salsa Festival.
This upbeat festival will feature salsa themed activities like salsa dancing, music and a homemade salsa-making contest where the attendees can be the judges. The Salsa Festival is this Saturday, September 14 from noon until 7pm. The admission is free, but $5 to be a salsa judge.
Not only is Old Town nostalgic it is also a lively neighborhood. Frequently, visitors will hear mariachi bands, see Mexican folk dancers, or enjoy other types of entertainment. To experience New Mexican culture and food or purchase authentic, unique Native American jewelry visit Old Town at Rio Grande Boulevard and Central Avenue.
