The 2013 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta begins today, Saturday, October 5 and continues through Sunday, October 13. It is that time of year when hot air balloons can be spotted floating in the vibrant blue skies throughout the Albuquerque metro area.

The schedule of events accommodates the early riser and night owl with 7AM mass ascensions and 7PM balloon glows. Some events have attracted over 100,000 attendants and parking can be challenging. Extra time should be considered when planning time to deal with bumper-to-bumper traffic, experience the entertainment at Balloon Fiesta Park and visit the many vendors selling anything from traditional New Mexican food to souvenirs.

The mass ascension, although an early arrival is a must with Dawn Patrol beginning at 5:45AM, is a must see. It is a spectacular sight to witness over 600 beautifully colored and imaginatively shaped hot air balloons launch at a single time. The balloon glow, held after nightfall, is an amazing static event where the hundreds of grounded balloons light up all at once. In addition to the glow the nighttime events feature a magnificent fireworks display.

The Park is over 300 acres with an 80 acre launching field and is the only venue where attendees can walk among the hot air balloons and mingle with the pilots. This event is truly a unique family experience. Admissions is $8 per person, 12 years and under are admitted free; be prepared for possible parking fees and weather aversions.
