Billboards with “El Hombre” written on them have gone up in Southern California without the consent of Albert Pujols. The ads are meant to glorify Albert “El Hombre” Pujols which is his known nickname. .
Traded from the St. Louis Cardinals in 2010, Pujols’ specific wishes were not to have his nickname remain “El Hombre” for purposes attributed to his reverence of a former Cardinal, Stan Musial. He doesn’t want to step on the toes of hall of famer Stan “The Man” Musial.
Apparently the Los Angeles Angels marketing people don’t speak a lick of Spanish because they put up the billboard without any concern to the obvious mistake. What Pujols is upset about also is they did not consult him before developing the billboard.
Albert Pujols wears the number five jersey and plays first base for the Angels. He’s playing on a $250M 10-year contract; he played on St. Louis Cardinals for 11 seasons. His career batting average is 0.328.
Pujols does not want to be known as “El Hombre” any longer. As reported on ESPN news, “Angels vice president for communications Tim Mead said the signs featuring ‘El Hombre’ represent 20 of the 70 Angels billboards in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.”
