Albany Schenectady, Use Solar Energy on Garbage

Dotted on the streets of Albany and Schenectady mainly on route 5 Central Avenue and State Street are stores, gas stations and fast food restaurants. In high traffic areas people travel to school and work and stop at bus stops and at benches. Residents travel along the sidewalks stopping at stores for cigarettes, drinks or food. Residents leave the stores and get back onto their prior destination. On the way items become discarded. For our benefit the city provides trash receptacles to retain our trash until it can be picked up at a later time by them. Now the city is using green technology in the form of solar energy, energy from the sun to help make this job easier.

Trash receptacles or garbage cans (but they can’t really be called garbage cans) are placed out in high traffic areas like at bus stops and in front of stores. They can’t really be called garbage cans because they are not cans. It is more like a square shape and on top is a solar panel. The solar panel collects energy from the sun to compact trash. There is a handle on the side to open up a chute to place garbage into the receptacle. Big Belly Solar is the name of the company that makes these trash receptacles. There website is called bigbellysolar.com. On the website it explains the benefits of using their products on busy city streets. Some benefits include longer periods between pick-ups and promoting more efficient green technology.

Going green is a good idea to reduce the release of atmosphere damaging carbon emissions into the atmosphere. This is a reality of our current society that should be on every persons mind. Solar energy devices in busy high traffic areas display’s to populations in masses this idea in action. Personally I have seen this technology from the Schenectady County Community College CDTA bus stop to Central Avenue in Albany. Wherever they are they are easily spotted by its bulky design Big Belly Solar logo on the side and a solar panel under a window on top. Also there is a handle on the side to open a chute to throw away your trash. If you throw away trash in them, then you have officially did something “Green.”
