Some Albanian women, community members called Kanun, have the choice to leave their lives as housewives to live like men. After this change, without any judgment on the part of other members, they are considered men. They are called "Virgjinesha or Burrnesha."
There are some women in the world, by their desperate fate, who wish to become men or at least live as one. In Albania, this choice is offered to women and falls under the Kanun laws.
The tradition of this ethnic group has no strict religion but it is the men who take care of others and control women. Marriages are arranged at an early age and the place of women is very limited, says the site Oddity Central . In fact, they are reduced to simply taking care of children and household duties.
However, this community has a rather original right: a woman may choose to become a man . For this to happen the woman has to dress like a man to be considered as such and live as one. In Albania these women are called the "Virgjinesha." And like men, "Virgjinesha", can then take care and represent the members of their families.
