Alaska Airlines adds nonstops from Seattle to Albuquerque, Baltimore, Cancún

If Cancun is on your winter getaway list, Alaska Airlines is hoping to get you there faster. On April 7, the Seattle-based airline submitted an application to begin seasonal nonstop service between Seattle and Cancún, Mexico. Pending approval by the US DOT and the Mexico DGAC, daily service to Cancun will begin November 6, 2014.

Although Cancun is known for its 14-mile Caribbean beach and all-inclusive resorts, it's also a good hopping off point to nearby Isla Mujeres, and a two-hour drive from Chichén Itzá. Alaska Airlines has been flying to Mexico since 1988 and currently serves six beach destinations: Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, Loreto, Los Cabos, Manzanillo, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta. It also flies to Guadalajara and Mexico City. Here's the new daily Seattle service with start dates:

  • New Orleans | June 12
  • Tampa | June 20
  • Baltimore | September 2
  • Detroit | September 4
  • Albuquerque | September 18
  • Cancun | November 6 (pending government approval)

The Seattle-Cancún route will be operated with Boeing 737 aircraft. Flight times and introductory fares will be available on after the DOT approves the request, which takes up to four weeks.
