"Celebrity Wife Swap" features a trade between Alan Thicke and Gilbert Gottfried in the episode that debuts on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 (8-9 p.m. ET), according to a March 6 press release from ABC Television Network.
The third episode of the season features a look at the home lives of actor Alan Thicke and comedian Gilbert Gottfried. So far "Celebrity Wife Swap" has aired episodes features a swap between reality TV moms Kate Gosselin and Kendra Wilkinson and a swap between rapper Coolio and rocker Mark McGrath.
The households of the celebrity families have opposing values and lifestyles. The wife moves into the home of the other, trading households, but not bedrooms. After the week is up, the couples get together and offer frank appraisals of the other household.
Alan Thicke is probably best known to television viewers as Dr. Jason Seaver, a role he played on the family sitcom "Growing Pains." Alan and his wife, Tanya, along with their 15 year old son, Carter, enjoy the finer things in life on their sprawling ranch in Santa Barbara, California. Tanya loves to entertain, throwing lavish dinner parties. The couple has large household staff that tends to all of the household needs, including the parties that Tanya oversees.
Gilbert Gottfried, his wife, Dara, and their two children, Lilly (5) and Max (3), live in bustling New York City. When Gilbert isn't doing stand-up comedy or voice over work, he's a notorious penny-pincher. The penurious comedian saves money by shopping at .99 cent stores and walking around the city rather then wasting money on cabs, subways or buses. Dara is accustomed to Gilbert's frugal ways, believing that people do not need to spend a lot of money just to show care for loved ones.
When Tanya arrives in at the Gottfried home in New York City, she realizes the entire apartment is the size of her bedroom in Santa Barbara. Gilbert arrives at the apartment and shows his brand of comedy by obnoxiously impersonating and making fun of her husband, Alan. It is the GottfRied's wedding anniversary and Gilbert takes Tanya out in place of his wife. The anniversary celebration is not what Tanya expects.
Meanwhile, Dara receives a warm welcome from Alan and Carter in Santa Barbara. She cannot believe the size of their lunch. Her first assignment is to prepare a surf & turf dinner for the family. Dara admits she is no chef, but she gives it her best shot. Afterwards, she joins Alan in the Jacuzzi for champagne. Dara again steps out of her comfort zone when she has to throw an elegant dinner party for Alan's friends, overseeing all aspects of the event.
