From March 8 through March 10, Alameda County Meals on Wheels will participate as a partner with Groupon’s G-Team to raise funds on-line using Groupon’s innovative micro-philanthropy program. Groupon users from across the Bay Area will be able to donate $15 with one click – and help feed a senior with three healthy, home-delivered meals.
“Every day, Groupon delivers deals, and we deliver meals. Groupon's new program, G-Team, turns the power of millions of users loose on the world of social change,” said Cindy Houts, Executive Director of Alameda County Meals on Wheels.

Users can donate to and read more about Meals on Wheels by clicking here. Remember, this deal is only good through March 10. As of this writing, 65 individuals had already responded to this coupon.
In July 2010, Groupon launched G-Team, a philanthropic initiative that empowers users by using their combined purchasing power for social change. Today, they are launching this effort particularly for their Bay Area Groupon subscribers. Groupon has over 60 million subscribers nationwide, and has their roots in the area of social change and collective action.
Alameda County Meals on Wheels is the first Bay Area participant in this new program. “We are launching with a modest goal, but have high hopes for remarkable success,” added Houts. “We are asking for just $15, but as we gather more and more participants, we can truly impact our community in a time of great need,” she said.
Alameda County Meals on Wheels
Alameda County Meals on Wheels is a collaboration of the six Meals on Wheels programs in Alameda County that provide warm, home delivered meals to over 2,200 seniors each delivery day. Many of the seniors served live alone or are recovering from illness, and the nutritious meals and daily companionship provided by Meals on Wheels staff and volunteers keep these seniors living independently and with dignity in their own homes.
Federal funding for Meals on Wheels has remained stable for nearly two decades, therefore half the cost of every meal must be raised locally.
