Alabama's unemployment continues to be higher than average


AP: Unemployment continues to be a problem for most areas. 

The latest figures for the state unemployment rates show that Alabama continues to have a higher unemployment rate than the U.S. on average. Alabama's unemployment rate is 10.4%, compared to the U.S. average of 9.7%.

Other states had even higher rates of unemployment. The table below shows the states with unemployment rates significantly higher than that of the U.S. for  August 2009. The September state unemployment figures will be released on October 21.
