Alabama's June unemployment rate decreased by the second-largest amount in the nation

AP: Mixed employment news for Alabama

In June Alabama's unemployment rate fell by 0.4 percentage points, which was the second largest amount among the 50 states, D.C., and Purerto Rico.  According a report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this week, Alabama's unemployment rate fell to 10.3% in June, down from 10.7% in May. Only New Hampshire enjoyed a larger percentage point drop, at 0.5 percentage points.

Alabama's June 2010 unemployment figures match the June 2009 firgures, which is encouraging economic news. Last month's unemployment rate is the lowest it has been in a year.

However, the unemployment situation in Alabama is far from rosy. The state's unemployment is still above the national rate of 9.5%. amd only six states have unemployment rates higher than Alabama's.
