Alabama Public Television had plans to broadcast two editions of "Great Performances" featuring "Magical Mystery Tour" , a movie featuring the Beatles that was first released in 1967, and "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited", a documentary (first released in 2012) about the making of "Magical Mystery Tour", through their network of TV stations (including WEIQ-TV in Mobile) on Saturday, March 9th, and Monday, March 11th. They would broadcast "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited" first on March 9th between 1:00 a.m. and 2:00 a.m. before broadcasting "Magical Mystery Tour" between 2:00 a.m and 3:00 a.m. As for March 11th, they would broadcast "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited" between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. before broadcasting "Magical Mystery Tour" between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. Both programs would be sent to the stations through APT's main network signal, meaning the stations would broadcast the programs on their main channels (the main broadcast channel for WEIQ-TV is radio frequency channel 41-1/virtual channel 42-1).
APT and other broadcasters affiliated with PBS first broadcast "Great Performances' " presentations of "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited" in December 2012 after receiving them through a satellite feed provided by PBS (see news releases for PBS' original plans to distribute "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited"). APT broadcast "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited" first on Friday, December 14th, between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. before broadcasting "Magical Mystery Tour" between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. APT broadcast them again in the same order on the following Saturday between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. and again on the following Sunday between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. All of those previous broadcasts by APT were done through their main network signal also.
After PBS distributed the programs initially, video of "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited" was uploaded onto the official World Wide Web sites for "Great Performances", WNET-TV in New York, New York (WNET-TV produced "Great Performances"), and the video section of the official World Wide Web site for PBS. By Friday, February 22nd, 2013, "Magical Mystery Tour Revisited" was still available through those sites.
Even though "Magical Mystery Tour" was not uploaded onto the sites after PBS distributed it initially, it was all ready available to members of the general public on commercial standard digital video discs (DVDs), commercial Blu-ray DVDs, and commercial video home system (VHS) tapes.
