According to a report in the Huntsville Times, the fate of Alabama-Huntsville joining the WCHA may be decided in a vote by the league this week during the annual NCAA Convention in suburban Dallas.
“The WCHA is one of the finest leagues in the country,” said UAH director of athletics Dr. E.J. Brophy in the story. “It would open the door to Heaven.”
UAH president Robert Altenkirch will join Brophy to make the school’s presentation at the convention, where WCHA representatives are scheduled to meet Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. as well as on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“It would make recruiting so much easier,” added UAH coach Kurt Kleinendorst. “It’s difficult to recruit as the last independent (program) in the country. It would allow us to take our program to another level. We can go to the kids’ living room and tell their parents we’re in the WCHA.
“That league carries a lot of weight.”
