College students have returned to class for another great semester of education. Here in Huntsville, Alabama, we have a university on the hills of Normal north of downtown that has had over a century of great tradition. Alabama A&M University continues to build on a history of excellence in service to the community.
AAMU history dates back to 1800s
Alabama A&M University was founded in 1875 by former slave William Hooper Councill. The school was established as a land grant institution in 1890. After numerous name changes and additions to the curriculum, the school became a university in 1969.
Attractions and events are Bulldog proud
The school is home to an art gallery, a radio station, and other special exhibits. For Bulldog fans everywhere, there are athletic events ranging from football to basketball to track and field. There are also special events ranging from music to drama.
Educational experience one of excellence
AAMU has continued to build on its excellent tradition of education. Classes are taught in many different subject areas. The school's website notes that 41 baccalaureate degrees and 23 master's degrees are offered, with additional doctorate degrees also available.
Alabama A&M University is located off on North Memorial Parkway in Huntsville. Residents and visitors to the area are encouraged to visit the campus and see why it is good to be a Bulldog.
