It is beyond words to describe the huge space left in the passing of Al Hobbs. "The Bishop", he was fondly known as, transitioned last week leaving three adult children, family and a host of friends and colleagues. In an email, Saturday, August 2, 2014, from the desk of the Assistant Secretary of the National Gospel Announcers Guild (National GAG), Organizer and President Emeritus of the Chicago Area Gospel Announcers Guild (CAGAG), Dennis Cole, issued a press release disclosing the memorial and funeral services. The services will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday, August 15 and Saturday, August 16, 2014.
A statuesque gentleman, Al Hobbs had a voice that commanded attention and a jovial spirit that left hearts lighter. A megawatt smile to match his big personality, Hobbs left a legacy that will live on. An Entrepreneur at heart, Al had his hands full running a number of companies, heading up the Gospel Announcers Guild as the National Chairman, Vice-Chairman of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), Radio Personality, artist and whatever else he found his hands to do.
Towards the end of an amazing week of workshops, concerts, meeting and greeting at the annual GMWA last week, the word came of Al Hobbs' passing. There will never be another person such as he. Those who knew him personally and in passing, exclaimed on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, fond memories. Posting photos reminiscent of times had with the personable Hobbs. The now President of the Chicago Area Gospel Announcers Guild, Yvonne Wesley-Seabrooks, shared the news via Facebook with a photo of her and Al during her ceremony installing her as President of the Chicago GAG Chapter.
