Al Sharpton press conference on Tiger Woods? An Al Sharpton press conference about Tiger Woods is just a funny rumor. Several websites have reported that a press conference was held by the Reverend Al Sharpton to speak about Tiger Woods, but the press conference never happened. Sharpton is well known for having press conferences for strange topics, but this isn’t one of them.
The rumor/joke claims that Sharpton spoke about the lack of any African-American women included in Tiger Woods list of women, and the fact that it has a negative effect on the black community, specifically young black girls.
“Why is it that a man who calls himself black can’t bring himself to cheat on his wife with a black woman?” is the line that Sharpton supposedly said while speaking to supporters in Harlem. “What does it say to young black girls everywhere when you pass them over? Shame on you, Tiger Woods. What would your daddy say?”
Sharpton supposedly said that men should have black women as mistresses, and said that today’s black athletes need to stop neglecting black women for extramarital affairs. He (supposedly) said that these men should follow in the footsteps of black role models like Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King, Jr., both of whom cheated on their wives with black women. And that cheating with African-American women would help the black community financially by allowing the black girls the opportunity to sell their stories to tabloids and gossip magazines.
The joke continues with a supposed quote from Sharpton saying, “I’m not asking you to not cheat on your wives, I’m just asking you to give back to your own community.”
Tiger Woods has been under intense media focus for the past two weeks. A few days before Thanksgiving, the National Enquirer released a story about an alleged affair of Tiger Woods and Rachel Uchitel, and the story didn’t go viral until after Woods crashed his car the day after Thanksgiving. A few days later Jaimee Grubbs came forward with her story of an affair with Woods, and she offered proof with a voicemail from Tiger Woods and over 300 text messages from him. Tiger Woods had his third knee surgery in Park City, Utah on April 15, 2008, and took two months off. He was determined to play in the US Open and win...which he did on June 14, 2008, much to everyone's amazement less than two months after his knee surgery. He was in pain during the US Open, as shown in this Associated Press photo. After the US Open, Tiger Woods took additional time off to let his knee heal.

The part that makes it not so funny is that people will believe it because he has said other things that were just as stupid. He may even believe it.
